A slice of history
In the 19th century, long before the world of mass production and the plastic revolution, shaving was a dangerous sport. In fact, shaving was so dangerous, no gentleman dared to pluck the courage to remove their stubbly growth in their own home. It was the barber who would deliver the man's shave, even Safety Razor shaving was not yet a thing.
Pre 1850 the only real way to shave was using a cut throat blade which many men lost their lives to… Okay maybe it wasn’t really that bad, but it was certainly a "don't try this at home" type of activity.
With Britain across the forefront of invention across the globe, one young man from Sheffield, England, turned his head from Aviation to Male Grooming, and was to invent a change that would change the way that Men shaved Forever. A change that would introduce a new morning ritual for Men across the world.
Change is the new normal.
The Englishman, William Henson, was about to invent a household item that would gift the man the opportunity to change his lifestyle for centuries to come.
The English inventor, above, sporting an excellent beard and moustache himself (Albeit well shaven around the chin - the 19th century was perhaps not the pinnacle of men's style and fashion), created this change.
Henson was born in Nottingham, England on 3 May 1812. He was a serial inventor, and had a hand in many creations including Aviation where he really found a name for himself. Henson had plenty of patents, in fact the T-handled Safety Razor (being the first of its kind) was one of his later patented inventions; he invented the modern form of the razor, the 'T' shaped safety razor that was to change the face of shaving across the world.
It wasn't until the year 1904 when Gillette finally patented what they saw as a better, or best version of the Safety Razor, that the traditional Safety Razor became the number one stocking filler gift for all men across America. Men across the globe were learning how to shave with a Safety Razor and Gillette dominated the market.
The Double Edge Safety Razor was to change the face of Men's grooming around the world.
